The musical was first written in 1971 and made famous by the 1978 movie starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. The songs of Grease are still sung by everyone of all ages. Footlight Theatre is thrilled to bring our audience back to their high school years and the fun times of black leather jackets and pink poodle skirts. Grease runs at Michael J. Fox Theatre from Friday, November 9 to Saturday, November 24. Audition details and ticket information will be announced shortly. Stay tuned!

A Whole Lotta Latkes was a play about two families -one Jewish and one Christian. The adults are forced to leave their children on Christmas Day. As a result, the children decided to spend the day together and in the process learn about each other’s traditions. The play shows that though they have different traditions, the families are startlingly similar.

The play was a challenge as the cast was quite large and we also decided to double cast the show to relieve the time commitment for the families and individuals. We also had to deal with many illnesses. As a result, director Heather Kennedy had to fill in for many performances. We also had to ask performers from previous shows to fill in for the various performers who were unable to attend certain performances.

Many thanks to Skyler Devlaming, Neil Gibbard, and Astrid Visscher. Astrid also helped in clarifying Jewish traditions, dress, and the costuming of the cast.

Many thanks to all the performers. They did an incredible job as many of them had limited rehearsal time. An additional thanks to all the parents. The show became a wonderful effort with I think the parents having just as much fun as the performers. I sincerely hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

To finish, I hope that no one became tired of eating “A Whole Lotta Latkes”!

Footlight Theatre is pleased to announce this year’s upcoming Vaudeville Season! Again this year’s show will feature an original script of crazy jokes and zany antics accompanied by hit songs from the Vaudeville era. You’ll laugh, you’ll groan and you’ll be singing along to this year’s show.

Heather Kennedy is directing this year’s show with musical direction again from Clare Wyatt and Robert Elmore. Heather recently directed the Footlight Christmas Show at the Village Museum, and has been in several productions of Footlight’s including Miss Hannigan “Annie”, and the loveable housekeeper Katey in “Meet Me in St. Louis”. Clare was part of last year’s Vaudeville and Robert Elmore has provided musical direction to Vaudeville in the past years along with being musical director for many of Footlight’s Fall shows.

For over 30 years, Footlight has been producing Vaudeville in conjunction with the Burnaby Village Museum. It’s a great opportunity for performers to gain solo and performance experience typically not afforded in larger shows. This year’s show anticipates even larger audiences as the City of Burnaby has just announced free admission to the Burnaby Village Museum for the summer. That’s right free admission. What a better way to entertain the family or summer vacation visitors than coming to see the show and tour this living historical museum.

The Vaudeville show runs Fathers Day to Labour Day every Sunday afternoon at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Additional performances can be seen on Canada Day, BC Day and Labour Day.

We hope to see you there!
